MUMBAI: Five days after a mob assaulted doctors at the civic-run KEM Hospital, the dean on Friday said he had identified a doctor who had allegedly `provoked' the accused to resort to violence.
The incident had occurred on Monday night when relatives of Lalbaug resident Vasudev Khochre, who died at the hospital, assaulted five resident doctors after being made to wait for over five hours for his body.

TOI had earlier reported how the family had said that someone had incited them to cause trouble after an argument with mortuary staffers over the delay.
"A senior doctor at the mortuary, who seemed inebriated, provoked us to go rough up the doctors responsible for the delay, rather than fight with them,'' said Sharad, Vasudev's son. Dean of KEM Hospital Dr Sanjay Oak said at the BMC commissioner's press conference that it was Dr D Balsara of the forensic science department who had provoked the family and that they would conduct an inquiry into the matter.
The assault had spurred 700 resident doctors from KEM to go on a flash strike on Tuesday, inconveniencing hundreds of patients. The strike was eventually called off when the BMC suspended four security personnel for "failing in their duties'' to prevent the incident.
